6 Dating and Courting Tips for Teens

If the guy who wants to date or court you is trying to pressure you sexually, then he is probably not the man of God for you. The Bible is very clear about purity and not dabbling with sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6: Set the boundary lines before you even consider dating or courting. If he is willing to wait for you and honor you in purity, this is a huge sign that he is a quality guy and also is a man of character. Allow him to approach your dad or father figure.

If you are still living at home, having your boyfriend or the guy whom you are being courted by or dating meet your father is a good idea. You should run him by your close family and friends to see what they think of the person you are interested in. Hopefully, they will give you positive feedback. It is good for a man to be one-on-one with your father and to be able to talk to him.

Keep the relationship open and healthy and be praying for your family and friends as well. Definitely heed to wise counsel Proverbs 1: You cannot please everyone, and you have to ultimately go with what God has for you and what makes you happy. If the relationship is moving you away from God, then you may want to consider the relationship itself.

Is this relationship worth risking your future—not only here, but in eternity? What vision, mission and goals do you have for your future? If there is a call of God on your life, you cannot be aloof. You need to be vigilant and prudent about whom you are dating and giving your heart to.

The Bible says that Satan is on the prowl like a lion, and that he is also like a sneaky slithering snake 1 Peter 5: Remember, when you are deceived, you do not know until the wolf has taken off the mask and the true character is revealed. This is a called a counterfeit. Spiritually we are to be discerning as well—if you are spirit-filled, anointed and read the Holy Word of God the truth , you will be sharpened and will be able to spot a counterfeit.

Like a well-trained banker, you will be able to see a counterfeit when it is presented to you. Ask God to show you and help you. It is to warn us. Ultimately, God works and operates in order. He is the author and perfector of our faith and our life Hebrews God is NOT the author of confusion 1 Corinthians If you feel confused, disillusioned, off balance, unclear, uncertain, foggy in your emotions, drained or not in peace, I have news for you: He is NOT the one.

Posted by tiggerandelise on October 2, at First of all, I never saw any good examples of what a high school dating relationship should even look like…and second of all, I always saw it as a black and white thing because it seemed most logical. I have a super long list of qualities someday I thought I would look for, and he oddly enough matches them.

Even if we ended up dating for yeeears, could it be more healthy to date for years than to be confused best friends for years? The positive side of dating instead of waiting for a long time could be that things would be more intentional if that makes sense without explanation.

Also, more exclusivity then and spending time with my best friend without people not getting confused or not understanding exactly. Not that this is an exact reason to date, but we would be an example to people in our school of what a relationship is actually supposed to be like. Repeating sort of before, waiting makes the level of pressure for it to work increase. In waiting until college to even date, I see feelings potentially inaccurately growing and hoping towards a great relationship. Posted by FutureMissionary on November 25, at My opinion is that it is okay for you to date.

It sounds like you have found a great guy and you would both be dating with the right intentions. Posted by whatsupwiththat on January 15, at Posted by eponastone on January 14, at Thank you so much for posting this. I am soon going to enter a relationship with a close friend of mine. God reserves that physical intimacy for the marriage bed only.

Christians believe marriage ordained by God remains authoritative and therefore abide by the mandate to remain sexually pure until marriage. Potential Christian dating partners should abide by the words found in the Bible concerning marriage. An ideal relationship should include unconditional love, happiness, fidelity, honesty, and two people coming together to form one person.

Sex has so many different definitions these days. Sex can mean oral sex, fondling, intercourse or even texting.

Because of those many different definitions, the actual boundaries that formerly indicated what defines sex have become blurred. Young Christians remain in a difficult situation because of these blurred boundary lines. When two young Christians start dating, each person will likely have a different definition of what sex actually involves. Whenever a topic exists where there seems only gray areas, God has provided a clear answer. According to the New Testament writings in Matthew 5: God remains clear and forbids sex outside the marriage relationship for Christians.

The process of dating means meeting and interacting online with all kinds of young people who may have different value systems, attitudes and backgrounds. For teens under age 18, that means connecting in chat rooms, texting or meeting people in secular dating sites for teens. If over the age of 18, participate with other singles online with a Christian dating service. Some potential dating partners may only want friendship while others desire a more romantic relationship. Some look for simple socialization and others seem ready to jump into marriage as soon as possible.

Most Christians look for a husband or wife, another person with whom they can have a meaningful and life-long relationship. As a result, there is no passage that instructs specifically how Christians should handle the issue of dating. However, the Bible does share many truths and theological principles that help us think Biblically when it comes to modern cultural issues like dating. My fear is that many single Christians think about dating, relationships, and marriage just like the world. There is a great failure of building our thinking about dating on the Word of God.

As a youth pastor, I get a front row seat to the morally murky waters of teenage dating. Last night at my youth group I taught from 2 Corinthians 6: This passage describes a distinction between the people of God and the unbeliever. Paul gives us the command to not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever and concludes this section in 7: As I taught this passage I made applications to teenage dating and relationships.

However before I started teaching this passage I shared my own personal opinions about teenage dating for Christians. I know how radically counter cultural that sounded to my teenagers who seem to be in a new dating relationship every other week.

However, here are my reasons. Dating can be so distracting for Christian teenagers. I watch them as they gossip about who is dating who. Who broke up with this person. There is a massive amount of emotional and intellectual engagement about the dating life of their peers. It seems that teens are either working on getting a date, currently dating someone, or recovering from a breakup. Singleness seems to be taboo in teenage culture.

For the Christian teenager this whole business of dating can be very distracting. As Christians, our primary focus, especially in our single years, should be on our relationship with God.
